Harunobu Murata portrait
Born October 7, 1988 in Tokyo, Japan. Murata began training at ESMOD Japan, in 2007, where he developed his stylistic confidence by entering design competitions and winning several prizes.
In December 2009, during the last year at ESMOD, he won the Grand Prize at the Kobe Fashion Contest that also rewarded him with a scholarship for Masters in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni. After his graduation from ESMOD, Harunobu worked as an assistant attaché de press at the PR company Steadystudy.
In October 2010, he started his Masters in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni, Milan. In May 2011, the young designer presented a collection inspired by the beauty and grace of the ocean at the International Festival of Young Designers of Dinard, where he received the Special Prize by order of the city of Paris.
In 2012 Harunobu won the Next Generation Project organized by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and presented his collection at Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012/13.
In May 2012, Murata started his professional career at John Richmond. He worked closely with Mr. Richmond to develop the first line of both men’s and women’s collections. In June 2015, Murata started working at Jil Sander as a womenswear designer alongside previous creative director Rodolfo Paglialunga and the current creative directors - Lucie Meier and Luke Meier.
In August 2018, Murata went back to Tokyo and founded design studio ATRUM, where he looks after all the creative activity and production of a luxury womenswear label - HARUNOBUMURATA.
